'Now is the time to buy', says property expert
03 December 2008
A personalised buy-to-let service for property portfolio builders has suggested that the current housing market situation represents the best buying opportunity for 20 years.Paul Clifton, from Residential Investments, has explained that during the boom which preceded the recent slump, it was difficult to buy top-class properties "because the market beat you to it".
However, he noted that the landscape has changed and that with some sellers ready to accept lower prices to push through a deal on their new property, now is a good time to be a buyer.
He said: "The game is different now; the market is flat and now is the time to buy and get some really good properties."
However, Mr Clifton's comments can also be applied to people looking to sell, and in particular those who are currently improving their properties with new driveways or kitchens, for example.
As buyers return to the market, competition is likely to be stiff and such amelioration of a property is likely to make it stand out from its rivals.
Nationwide reported that house prices fell by 0.4 per cent in November 2008 compared to a 1.3 per cent fall in the previous month.
